Dr. Ethan Ake-Little is not your ordinary HR specialist. His unique and thoughtful career trajectory, stemming from a deep foundation in education to influential roles in administrative leadership, makes him a stalwart in his field. At the heart of his work, you'll find a passion for understanding how institutional decisions impact individual lives and livelihood, and how fairness and intelligence can make these decisions sustainable and supportive.
Starting as a biology teacher, Ethan experienced the diverse challenges within the educational sector, witnessing how policy decisions and leadership can shape outcomes for students and employees. It led Ethan to become involved in labor rights, fighting for fairness and improvement as president of the Temple University Graduate Students Association, a graduate student labor union and later, as the Executive Director of AFT Pennsylvania.
Ethan's leadership journey didn't stop there. He translated his experience, knowledge, and passion for fairness into senior HR roles, where he worked towards creating HR systems that are just, effective, and integrative. He managed complex employee benefits, developed strategic compensation plans, and made significant strides to link staff performance to student outcomes.
Yet, understanding the theory was never enough for Ethan. His time as a Research Assistant at Temple University allowed him to build a robust analytical skillset, using data to drive his mission for improved decision-making in organizations. His focus on quantitative research taught him to question assumptions, identify trends, and distinguish fact from fiction.
Ethan's long-term goal is to ensure that employment law, HR strategy, and research-based decision-making are integrated to foster effective, fair, and resilient workplaces. He believes that the shift towards strategic workforce design can create more inclusive and productive environments for all employees.
Through this blog, Ethan aims to share his experiences and insights, offering a fresh perspective on HR strategy and education. He hopes that his work will inspire and assist others in their own journey to create better, fairer institutions that support human growth and dignity. Join him as he explores the challenges and opportunities that come with shaping the workplaces of the future.
